BEGINNER WORKSPACE

Start here

A logged-out place to see what to do next. Match Sterling stays free to read. The calculators stay free to use. Nothing here is an account. Nothing is sent to a bookmaker.

Practice

£10 practice simulation

This is a practice simulation. It is not a recorded bet. It is not marked as laid. It does not write to the profit log. There is no button here to store it as a recorded result.

The preset is a £10 qualifying bet at back odds 3.00 and lay odds 3.10, with no exchange commission. The figures come from the same calculator as the rest of the site. Each result assumes one lay for the whole bet is fully matched. Both sides settle under the same rules. A practice result can be a loss.

Locked reference. These examples stay at £10, back 3.00 and lay 3.10. They do not change when you edit the form.

Qualifying bet, no commission: lay stake £9.68, exchange liability £20.33, -£0.33 if the bookmaker bet wins, -£0.32 if the lay wins. Stake not returned, no commission: lay stake £6.45, exchange liability £13.55, £6.45 if the bookmaker bet wins and £6.45 if the lay wins. Stake returned, no commission: lay stake £9.68, exchange liability £20.33, £9.67 if the bookmaker bet wins and £9.68 if the lay wins. Qualifying bet, 2% commission: lay stake £9.74, exchange liability £20.45, -£0.45 if the bookmaker bet wins and -£0.45 if the lay wins.

Next step

The practice above stays on this page. Then do these in order. Each link is a page already on Match Sterling. There is no account to create.

  1. Walk through your first offer

Start with the worked example before you type your own prices.

  2. Check both outcomes

Use the matched-betting calculator. If you need a different calculator, open the tools hub.

  3. Record a settled result

The profit log is separate from the practice simulation. A result is recorded only when you open the profit log and press Save.

  4. Optional: questions or self-exclusion

Read the beginner questions. If you want to stop, GamStop is the UK scheme for online self-exclusion.

Tools

Free calculators. You type the prices. There is no paid matcher feed and no odds feed on these pages.

Track

The practice simulation and the profit log are separate. Practice figures are not recorded. The profit log stays in this browser. It does not sync to another device. Match Sterling does not keep a copy.

Recorded

Profit log

Stored only in this browser. Your entries are kept in this browser’s local storage. We never receive them. If you clear your browser data, the log will not be there. The same applies if you open Match Sterling on another browser or device. There is no cloud sync. A practice result is not added here. Export a CSV if you want a copy of what you have saved.

The CSV uses the same columns as the profit log: date, offer, type, profit_gbp. It exports recorded rows only.

Offer checklist

These rows are illustrative templates. They use the £10 practice prices (back 3.00, lay 3.10, no commission). They are not live bookmaker offers. They are not listed on the offers page. A tick is kept in this browser only. Ticking a row does not place a bet, open a bookmaker, record a result, or save anything outside this browser.

Offer checklist

Offers honesty

Match Sterling stays free to read. The calculators stay free to use. There is no sign-up.

We do not promise earnings. A worked example is not a forecast of what you will be paid.

There is no paid matcher feed. You choose the selection and type the prices yourself.

The offers page is empty on purpose until a labelled affiliate link is live. It is not a broken page. No paid bookmaker referral links are active.

We will not push you. Read how we stay free. The empty list is on the offers page.

Stay safe

Matched betting uses gambling transactions and can lose money. Odds can move, a lay can be part-matched, and a bookmaker can restrict an account.

Check that you are eligible, the minimum odds, the expiry, and whether a free bet is stake not returned (SNR) or stake returned, before you bet.

Exchange liability is cash you need on the exchange. It is separate from the bookmaker stake.

Match Sterling is for adults aged 18 and over. For support, see BeGambleAware.org. To self-exclude from UK online gambling, see GamStop.

The beginner questions cover the common worries. The legality guide is is matched betting legal in the UK? Read the affiliate disclosure before you follow any future commercial link.
