What Match Sterling does and does not do

Match Sterling is a free learning site about matched betting for UK adults. Matched betting pairs a back bet at a bookmaker with a lay bet on a betting exchange. A back bet is a bet that something will happen. A lay bet is a bet that it will not happen.
This page sets out what the site does today and what it does not do. We would rather you know the limits before you rely on anything here.
What the site does
- Guides that explain the process. Start with the beginner guide and the first-offer walkthrough.
- Reference pages: the glossary, SNR vs SR, lay liability and is matched betting legal in the UK?.
- A calculator for one back bet and one lay bet. It shows the lay stake, the liability and the result either way. Liability is what you lose on the exchange if the selection you laid wins.
- An each-way calculator for cash each-way and extra-place bets. You type every price yourself.
- An odds scanner that compares bookmaker and exchange prices. Live scans need your own key from The Odds API. Sample data needs no key.
- A profit log for your settled results. Your entries stay only in your browser and are never sent to us.
What the site does not do
There is no offer matcher. A matcher is a tool that searches for close back and lay prices for you, often across many offers. Match Sterling does not have one. You choose your own selection and type your own prices into the calculators.
There is no paid odds feed. Match Sterling does not supply an odds key and does not host a paid odds feed. The odds scanner only fetches live prices if you add your own key, and that uses the quota on your own provider account. It does not poll in the background and it does not place bets.
There is no live offer list. The offers page has no offers listed. There is no verified live-offer directory on this site. Our guides use made-up examples, not current promotions.
There are no paid referral links. No paid bookmaker referral links are active on this site. Any future paid placement will be labelled. See the affiliate disclosure.
There is no login or account. Nothing you type into the calculators is saved to an account. The profit log stays in your browser.
The calculators do not cover every case. The main calculator works out one lay for the whole back bet and assumes that lay is fully matched, with the same settlement rules on both sides. It cannot work out the extra lay after part of a lay has already matched, and the stake it shows is not an additional lay on top of that matched exposure. The each-way calculator does not handle dead heats, non-runners, Rule 4 deductions, place terms that change when runners drop out, premium or tiered commission, exchange minimum stakes, free-bet each-way bets or underlay and overlay.
The scanner does not confirm a bet will work. Quotes may be delayed. The scanner does not confirm exchange liquidity (how much money is waiting to match your lay), bookmaker stake limits or whether your account is eligible. Check both prices yourself before you bet.
We do not promise results. Matched betting involves gambling transactions and can lose money. Odds can move, lays can be part-matched, mistakes cost money and bookmakers can restrict accounts. Calculations do not guarantee that a bet is accepted or matched, or that you are eligible for an offer.
